The trek up the Langtang Valley is another of the great short treks that can be done easily in ten days or so. Starting from Dhunche, which takes about a day to reach from Kathmandu, the trail meanders by the side of the Langtang river before reaching the village of Langtang and Kyanjin, further up. Here again, one is surrounded on all sides by mountains.
Another popular destination, Helambu, can be reached from here for those who prefer not to head straight back to Kathmandu. This can be done either by going over the Ganja Pass, accessible from Langtang itself or by backtracking for a couple of days to pass through Gosainkund, a major pilgrimage site.
HELAMBU The trek to Helambu is one that remains open twelve months of the year. The access roads leading to the start of the route are the shortest from Kathmandu and no backtracking is necessary during this week-long walk. Though staying under 3,500 meters for the entire duration the views are as good and there are fewer trekkers than in other famous trails.
